How does FASTag help tourists?

People’s lives have been made so much easier thanks to technological advancements, especially for tourists and travellers. They have been able to track their whereabouts, make calls home from their destination, and so much more. They can also pay for their tickets and hotel rooms online and take advantage of exclusive deals such as discounts and cashback. For any traveller, money is essential. As a result, they must ensure that they have enough for the costs.

The Government of India (GOI) has made it mandatory for all vehicles passing via toll plazas in India to pay toll charges using FASTag. It is to minimise vehicular traffic at toll plazas. FASTag, a programme for electronic toll collection on toll plazas along national highways, was launched by NHAI.

Many car owners and toll collectors have eliminated the hassle of waiting for payment or arranging change using an electronic toll collection system. They have a tag attached to the car’s windscreen connected to the bank account for safe debit. They will not have to think about bringing extra cash or depleting their emergency fund. Instead of weakening their pockets by paying for tolls, they can focus on other things. Here are five examples of how it has aided tourists:

Avoid stopping at toll plazas: Cash transactions take a long time and are inconvenient. It is no longer a hindrance for those who use FASTag. They will quickly drive through toll booths and save a lot of fuel that would otherwise get used by regularly stopping and starting the car.

Detailed transaction history: While on business trips, all owners can access this facility through an online portal to view previous transactions, produce statements, and assert their charges from the company.

Speedy payments: Authorities at toll booths will deduct the toll fare directly from the driver or car owner’s linked bank account using Radio Frequency Identification technology to check the tag fixed on automobiles. The payment information gets sent to the debitor’s registered mobile number via SMS. Using this facility to pay for tolls has become more convenient.

Online recharge: All services, including recharges, are now available online. It’s no longer necessary to go to stores to get refreshed. Using debit and credit cards, you can quickly reload your FASTag online. Users may also use internet transfer modes to make payments.

Environment friendly: It is environmentally friendly because FASTag electronic toll collection does not use paper. The environment is becoming more orderly. All vehicles must use electronic payment methods for toll payments on highways and expressways equipped with tag scanners, according to Indian government regulations.

To collect FASTag offline, vehicle owners can go to any of the Point of Sale (POS) locations at Toll Plazas / Bank branches. The issuer agency’s web portal can be used to manage the FASTag account. The account may be topped up using a debit or credit card, RTGS/NEFT, or Net banking.
